WBS National Chess Champions

Wolmer’s Boys’ ‘A’ team has been crowned champions of the National High Schools Chess Championships 2025 after an impressive performance over two days and six rounds at Calabar High School.

Dominating from the preliminary rounds, Wolmer’s secured a perfect 20 wins from 20 games across four boards. In the finals, they maintained their form, winning 16 games, drawing two, and losing only two.

The team successfully dethroned defending champions Campion College ‘A’ in the finals, with St. Catherine High ‘A’ securing third place. St. Jago High School ‘A’ and Manning’s ‘A’ completed the top five standings.

  • Fide Master (FM) Jaden Shaw (Wolmer’s Boys’ ‘A’) – Top board one player, perfect 6/6 points

  • Corbin Harvey (Wolmer’s Boys’ ‘A’) – Top board two player, 5.5/6 points

Fide Master (FM) Jaden Shaw, captain of Wolmer’s Boys’ ‘A’ team, credited the victory to teamwork and dedication, stating,

"We won because we worked as a team all season, supporting each other every step of the journey."

The National High School Chess Championships, organized by the Jamaica Chess Federation, is a premier chess event featuring 70 schools competing across six zones. The top two teams from each zone automatically advance to the grand finals, with 12 additional teams qualifying through playoffs.
